Project Description
Dr. Fortin's laboratory is dedicated to fundamental and preclinical research focused on a major axis: brain cancer. Our work specifically targets glioblastoma, a tumor that is extremely resistant to current treatments and carries a severe prognosis. The objective of our Master's and PhD projects is to improve therapeutic avenues for glioblastoma while keeping the patient's quality of life at the heart of our concerns. Skills to be Acquired Students will develop multidisciplinary expertise, including: • Cell Culture: Cell passages, chemosensitivity assays (chemiograms), preparation of cell suspensions, etc. • Tissue Processing: Handling and preparation of brain tumor samples for research purposes. • Specialized Surgery (Animal Models): Intracerebral implantation of cancer cells and application of treatments (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy). • Complementary Techniques: Histology, medical imaging, and other methods as required by the project. Research Environment Dr. Fortin is affiliated with the Departments of Pharmacology-Physiology and Nuclear Medicine and Radiobiology. Supervision is generally conducted through co-direction with an associate professor. Note on Mentorship: The acquisition of technical and scientific skills is gradual. Under the supervision of a dedicated, experienced, and attentive team, we foster a learning environment that is both rigorous and rewarding. Requirements • Autonomy, reliability, and scientific rigor. • Strong aptitude for multidisciplinary work, both independently and as part of a team. Assets • Excellent academic record. • Proficiency in French and English (oral and written). • Prior experience in animal handling.
