Canada Research Chair in Integrative Ecology

Biodiversity is not just a list of species — it is also about how species interact within ecosystems, in turn influencing ecosystem processes and supporting diversity. As Canada Research Chair in Integrative Ecology, Professor Dominique Gravel is exploring how anthropogenic (human-driven) changes are affecting biodiversity.

Professor Gravel’s recent research led to the creation of the observation network known as Biodiversité Québec. Now, he and his research team are trying to understand and predict the multiple dimensions of biodiversity change. They are also developing an open information system and a suite of decision-making tools. Their work will focus on the fundamental research that this new research infrastructure has made possible.

Main Objective of the Research Program

Creating tools to understand and predict complex relationships between biodiversity distribution, and the structure and functioning of ecosystems worldwide.
