Canada Research Chair in Human Impacts on Wildlife

From habitat destruction to climate change to overharvesting, human activity is creating challenges for other species around the world. To contain these threats to biodiversity, we must address critical knowledge gaps. One such gap concerns the mechanisms that link human activities and population dynamics. Another gap is in our knowledge of whether animal populations can evolve fast enough to adapt to human-driven changes.

As Canada Research Chair in Human Impacts on Wildlife, one of Professor Fanie Pelletier’s long-term goals is to evaluate and better understand how human activities affect natural selection in the wild. She also aims to measure the consequences of these novel selective pressures on the ecology and evolution of wild animals.

Profile

Fanie Pelletier is a professor in the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Science of the Université de Sherbrooke.

Research Relevance

Ultimately, Professor Fanie Pelletier and her research team hope to develop deeper knowledge about how species around the world are likely to fare as the planet warms and the human population expands.
