Adjectives

Adjectives give information about people, places or things.

1. Adjectives are generally placed before a noun. (examples : I have brown hair, what a nice day!)

2. Adjectives can also be placed after the verb to be. (examples: he is sad, they are funny)

3. Adjectives are invariable. (examples: a creepy story, ten creepy stories)

But watch out! Some nouns can become adjectives, and be INVARIABLE
Examples : 1. A boy is 3 years old.
            2. A 3 year old boy
In the first sentence, the word years is a noun, and it’s plural because it is preceded by the number 3. In the second sentence, the word year is an adjective describing the noun boy.

Another example is when talking about money bills.
Examples : 1. A bill of twenty dollars
            2. A twenty dollar bill

In the first sentence, the word dollars is a noun, and it’s plural because it is preceded by the number twenty. In the second sentence, the word dollar is an adjective describing the noun bill.
