Mads Bølling

Mads Bølling holds a BA in sports and Norwegian outdoor life studies, a Master’s degree in pedagogy with a specialization in the sociology of education, and a PhD in education and health promotion.

He is a researcher at the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention (CCRP), Section for Health Promotion and Prevention, and an external associate professor at VIA University College, Center for Didactics and Pedagogy, in the program for outdoor pedagogy. He leads the Danish research group Children’s Health and Education in School and Community Settings (CHESS) at CCRP, which focuses on education outside the classroom and its influence on students’ health, well-being, and learning—particularly school motivation, social well-being, and physical activity—through the lens of Scandinavian Udeskole practices.

Above all, his research explores the development and evaluation of school-based interventions from a life-course perspective, aiming to promote inclusive educational environments that support all children, including those at risk and with special needs, through outdoor learning and health-promoting approaches.
