A Research Project in College Teaching

The Master of Education in College Teaching is the capstone of the three-program pathway, following the Graduate Certificate and the Graduate Diploma in College Teaching.

It is a course-based professional master’s program that supports educators who wish to further their professional development by undertaking a research project focused on a question, issue or aspect of practice related to college teaching.

Participants may explore a wide range of topics, including pedagogical practices, student learning, professional issues in teaching or questions arising from their own experience.

Although the culminating project takes the form of an essai rather than a thesis, it follows the main steps of a rigorous research process: contextualizing the topic, defining the
problem, reviewing the relevant literature, identifying objectives, selecting and describing a methodology, carrying out the project, and analyzing and interpreting the findings.

Through this process, students develop the ability:

  • to design and conduct a research project related to college teaching practice.
