Contenu

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL): A process of expertise development focused on acquiring knowledge about teaching in higher education, as well as reflecting on one’s professional practice with the goal of improving it. Topics include conceptions of teaching, learning and assessment, models of pedagogical planning, pedagogical and curricular alignment, motivational and cognitive characteristics of learners, student-centered teaching and assessment in face-to-face and distance learning. Other topics covered that are inherent to educational contexts include learning environments, program characteristics, and development and assessment of teaching practices.

Teach and promote learning by applying active-learning methods or approaches. 

Contenu

Understanding of active-learning pedagogies such as problem-based learning, case method, and flipped classroom. Preparation of teaching and learning materials. Roles of teacher during active learning. The relationship between knowledge and development of expertise in the context of student-centered learning. Learning processes specific to each active-learning method or approach in higher education.

Assessment of learning, knowledge, and competencies in the classroom. Level of consistency between the assessment and teaching practices. Assessment and motivation. From objectives to competencies. Different learning assessment approaches in higher education. Assessment with traditional and innovative approaches. Regulation, formative assessment, and self-assessment. Communicating the assessment results.

Learning environments. Use of self-regulated learning strategies. Motivational processes applied in a learning context. Self-determination and goal achievement. The role of emotions. Transfer of learning in interdisciplinary contexts.
