Erasmus Mundus English Version

Sherbrooke opens doors to Europe for studies in philosophy

Join ERASMUS MUNDUS Europhilosophie
offered in Canada exclusively through the Université de Sherbrooke

The Erasmus Mundus Master’s in German and French Philosophy in the European Context (EuroPhilosophie) offers students from all over the world a first-rate training program specialized in German philosophy, French philosophy, and the interaction of both in the European cultural context. A vast laboratory of ideas and practices, the program is a unique opportunity to further learning while connecting with some of the most renowned researchers in their respective fields. The program, two years in length, is open to students enrolled in the master’s in philosophy at the Université de Sherbrooke. It involves three semesters of study at three European universities belonging to the EuroPhilosophie Consortium (Toulouse, Bologna, Coimbra, Louvain, Prague, Wuppertal, etc.). Over the course of the program, each student is required to write a research paper supervised by a teacher-researcher from the home university and a teacher-researcher from one of the three host universities in Europe. On completion of the training, students are awarded a master’s in philosophy from the Université de Sherbrooke and a master’s from Erasmus Mundus attesting that they belong to a scholarly community of high-level researchers. Application conditions Students applying to the EuroPhilosophie program must:
  • have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
  • have completed a university path in philosophy and history of philosophy;
  • master spoken and written German and/or French, and commit to intensive language training offered by the EuroPhilosophie master’s program if they master only one of the two languages;
  • commit to both years of the EuroPhilosophie degree path; and
  • provide a one-page research proposal (500 words), a letter of recommandation, and a resumé to the Chair of Graduate Studies at the Département de philosophie et d’éthique appliquée, Université de Sherbrooke, at the time they submit their application.
