Patient Services

Hospital consulting department

Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke, Fleurimont and Hôtel-Dieu

This department, which is on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year, provides consulting services for the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various pathologies related to infectious diseases. Qualified microbiologists and infectiologists trained to the highest standards treat infectious diseases such as pneumonia, soft tissue infections, joint prothesis infections, tropical diseases, etc.

Infectious diseases ambulatory care department(SAMI), Hôtel-Dieu

The ambulatory care department recently moved to the second floor of the new wing of Hôtel-Dieu and continues to improve patient services, delivered at a day clinic or even at home for patients requiring intravenous antibiotics that formerly required hospitalization.

HIV Clinic

The HIV Clinic founded by Dr. Raymond Duperval 25 years ago has a tradition of excellence in caring for patients with HIV. They are assessed and followed at the Clinic, as well as patients co-infected with the hepatitis C virus.

Multidisciplinary care is an integral part of the Clinic’s success. Nurse clinician Annie Chouinard coordinates care at the Clinic, supported by a team of physicians, pharmacists, social workers and nutritionists.

Microbiology Laboratory

The microbiology laboratory of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke is located at two sites and directed by Dr. Alain Piché. It provides diagnostic services related to infectious diseases, not only within the hospital but also in clinics and other hospitals in the Eastern Townships.

The laboratory’s expertise includes bacterial analyses, antibiotic sensitivity tests, mycology, virology, mycobacteriology and parasitology. The latest molecular biology techniques (PCR) are also available to provide quick and accurate results, with the aim of constantly improving patient care.

Infection control

The mission of the infection prevention team is to promote patient safety by reducing the risk of acquiring infections. The team of nurses and physicians has built a solid reputation in hospital epidemiology as well as infection prevention and control. Their impressive statistics are proof of this expertise. In the last few years, the CHUS has been one of the Québec hospitals with the lowest rates of Clostridium difficile colitis incidence and one of the few hospitals where the prevalence of methicillin-resistant S. aureus infection (MRSA) is declining.
