International health
International health has been an important component of the Infectiology Department’s activities since the early 1990s and the post-doctoral program encourages residents who so desire to get involved in such activities, following the model of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), for two reasons: first, from a humanitarian perspective, to participate as much as our modest means allow in improving health conditions of southern populations; and second, because the world has become a global village and infectious diseases from developing countries are increasingly being brought across our own borders by immigrants and travellers and now account for a significant number of requests for infectiology consults.
