Embodied Cognition and Embodied Aesthetics in the Practice of Medicine
How do clinicians observe and learn all they can from the embodied presences of their patients? Can narrative medicine strengthen the capacities to witness and comprehend not only the biology of their patients’ bodies but their embodied situations in their lives? This lecture will examine some of the principles of aesthetics in the effort to bring clinicians to grasp more fully the predicaments of their patients. And of themselves
Objectives :
1. Learners will contemplate the contributions of embodied cognition and embodied aesthetics
2. Learners will consider non-reductive means to come to grips with what their patients face in illness
3. Learners will analyze the ways in which patients represent their health situations
