Intérêts de recherche

The goal of my research is to develop simple and efficient asymmetric methodologies of broad use that will serve as tools to facilitate the work of synthetic chemists in both academia and industry. Achieving this feat is a continuing challenge since both reactivity and stereoselectivity must be optimized concurrently.

  • Collaborator. (2018-2019). Germany. In line with my project to quantify and understand the Lewis acidity of iodine(III) compounds, I am helping the group of Prof Stefan Huber (Bochum) to assess the Lewis acidity and stability of dibenzo[b,d]iodolium salt derivatives, some that they have developed and others they are planning to synthesize and test as catalysts. This is an ongoing collaboration that should open opportunities for external funding.
  • Collaborator. (2016-2019). France. Computational Investigation of the Origin of selectivity in the synthesis of fluorinated iminosugars. I have performed extensive DFT calculations on an system developed by Prof. Olivier R. Martin (and Dr. Cyril Nicolas), from Université of Orléans (France) to explain the stereoselectivities they were obtaining experimentally, as the origin of their results was unclear. The system was too complex to obtain classical activation barriers. Consequently, I used a non-standard method that yielded very useful information. I have participated actively in the writing of the manuscript and description of the stereochemical models. I am currently studying a new system they developed.
  • Principal investigator. (2018-2019). Germany. Quantification of the Lewis acidity and electrophilicity of iodine(III) reagents. With the financial support of a FRQNT/FRQS Short Research Mission Grant, I have worked in the group of Prof Herbert Mayr and PD Armin Ofial at LMU (Munich) for 3 months to utilize their benzhydrilium method to measure the Lewis acidity of a large set of iodine(III) reagents toward an extended set of Lewis bases. I have also made measurements to quantify the electrophilicity of these hypervalent iodine compounds. The collaboration is ongoing with the help of one of their Ph.D. student (Robert Mayer).
