Activités de collaboration internationale

  • Narinder Singh (Dept. Chemistry, Indian Inst. of Technology Ropar). (2015-2022). India. The interdisciplinary research I coordinate at the Université de Sherbrooke Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT) requires a continuous interaction between engineering physics researchers and biologists/microbiologists as well as chemists. The innovative work in chemistry carried out by Prof. N. Singh is attractive for advancing some elements of our technology for rapid detection of bacteria and evaluation of bacterial reactions to antibiotics. One of the graduates from that group, Dr. Hemant Sharma, while supported by the FRQNT Merit Scholarship for Foreign PDFs, investigated chemical processes related to biofunctionalization of photonic nanostructures used for rapid detection of bacteria. One paper has already been published, one submitted, and several other papers have been prepared for publication with Dr. Sharma and Prof. Singh.
  • Xiaohuan Huang (Hubei Normal University, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Huangshi). (2016-2022). China. Prof.X. Huang, after completing a post-doctoral internship in my group at 3IT, became an Assistant Professor at the Hubei Normal University where she carries out research focused on surface chemistry of materials for biosensing applications. In 2018, Prof. Huang and I received a FRQNT grant for short-term visits supporting out collaborative effort concerning " Chiralphotonic sensor based on GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures”. I anticipate that this innovative program will lead to new industrial applications of the technology of quantum semiconductors. The collaboration will facilitate the exchange of students between our laboratories and the results of this research are expected to be published in high-impact journals.
  • Therese Leblois (Univ. de Franche-Comté, FEMTO-ST Institute, Besançon, France). (2011-2020). France. Prof. Th. Leblois investigates GaAs-based surface-acoustic wave devices for biosensing. My contribution to this project concerns biofunctionalization of GaAs for specific attachment of biomolecules of interest. Since 2012, we have graduated one PhD student, co-supervised (en cotutelle) who was supported by MITACS Canada, an NSERC CRD and Université de Franche-Comté. Recently, another PhD student en cotutelle successfully graduated as a result of this collaboration. Several papers and conference presentations have been published or are prepared for submission.
  • Jian-Jun He (Ctr. for Int. Optoelectr., Zhejiang Univ., Hangzhou, China). (2009-2019). China. I have been investigating the technology of quantum well intermixing (QWI) for the fabrication of integrated photonic devices. During my visits to Prof. He's laboratory, I supervised graduate students involved in the application a laser technology for QWI. Among them, 2 PhD students completed their thesis in 2013 and 2014. Also, an MSc graduate from this laboratory (Neng Liu), supported by the FRQNT Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students and the program of the Canada Research Chair in Quantum Semiconductors, has completed her PhD thesis in my group at UdeS 3IT.
  • Andrei Kabashin (CNRS Research Director, Aix-Marseille University, France). (2008-2018). France. The collaboration with Dr. Kabashin is focused on plasmonic devices and the development of integrated biosensors based on surface plasmon resonance mediated quantum well photoluminescence. In the frame of a previous NSERC Strategic grant, we advanced both fundamental and practical knowledge of plasmonic devices. Since 2015, we have been collaborating on the organization of a series of topical meetings on Synthesis and Photonics of Nanoscale Materials that take place, every year, at Photonics West meetings in San Francisco.
