Awards and Distinctions
- The 2006 Governor General’s Award for translation was granted to Hugh Hazelton (Ph.D. Sherbrooke 1997) for his translation, Vetiver, based upon Vétiverby Joël Des Rosiers;
- The 2004 Governor General’s Award for translation was granted to Judith Cowan (Ph.D. Sherbrooke 1983) for her translation, Mirabel, based upon Lignes aériennes by Pierre Nepveu;
- The 1993 Governor General's award was granted to Professor Emeritus D.G. Jones for his translation, Categorics: One, Two and Three, based upon Catégoriques : un, deux et trios by Normand de Bellefeuille, as was the 1977 Governor General’s Award for his anthology of poems Under the Thunder the Flowers Light up the Earth.
- Jo-Anne Elder (Ph.D. Sherbrooke 1986) was nominated for a Governor General’s Award for her translation, Beatitudes (2008), based upon Béatitudes by Hermenegilde Chiasson. and for her translation, Tales from Dog Island: St. Pierre et Miquelon (2003), based upon Les litanies de l’Île-aux-Chiens by Françoise Enguehard;
