Quantum FabLab

Context

The Quantum FabLab (QFL) is an open space for ideation that stimulates interdisciplinary collaboration. It was designed to accommodate several users simultaneously working on various projects. It represents a shared platform for experimental research in quantum physics and engineering, taking advantage of the IQ’s unique expertise in characterizing quantum materials and devices. The QFL takes the form of a quantum testbed equipped with state-of-the-art research tools capable of probing devices at the interface of materials and computation, complemented by a complete mechanical workshop for the fabrication of high-precision custom parts.

Mandate

  • To increase the research capacity of IQ members through access to state-of-the-art equipment and its collaborative aspect, which allows for the optimization of operating time as well as the conceptualization and fabrication of custom parts
  • To enable the emerging quantum ecosystem in Quebec and Canada to have access to quantum infrastructures
  • To contribute to the training of students (undergraduate and graduate)

CLOSED LOOP DILUTION REFRIGERATOR

Bluefors LD250 with cooling power from 12 μW to 20 mK, one-click cooling or heating sequence initiation and magnetic field application capability.

CLOSED LOOP DILUTION REFRIGERATOR WITH OPTICAL INPUT

Bluefors LD400 with 14 μW cooling power at 20 mK, optical input, vibration isolation system and one-click cooling or heating sequence initiation.

LARGE CAPACITY CLOSED LOOP DILUTION REFRIGERATOR

Bluefors XLD400 with 14 μW cooling power at 20 mK, six access ports and one-click cooling or heating sequence initiation.

CLOSED LOOP REFRIGERATOR WITH VARIABLE TEMPERATURE AND FAST CYCLE (1.5 K)

ICEoxfordDRYICE1.5K with 50 mm diameter and temperature range from 1.3 K to 300 K.

VARIABLE TEMPERATURE LIQUID HELIUM REFRIGERATOR

Janis VariTemp with temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K.

CRYOGENIC PROBE STATION

LakeShore Cryotronics CPX-VF with superconducting magnet up to .5 T, wafer diameter up to 51 mm and temperature measurement range between 4.2 K and 400 K.

CRYOGENIC PHYSICAL PROPERTIES MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

QuantumDesign Dynacool PPMS with superconducting magnet up to 14 T and temperature measurement range between 1.9 K and 400 K.

OPTICAL TABLE

Vibration-isolated optical table including TeraFlash pro THz laser source, stable tunable laser source, picosecond pulsed laser diodes, cryogenic nano-positioning systems and optical detection and control components

WORKSTATIONS, MEASURING EQUIPMENT, STORAGE AND ACCESSORIES

  • Electronic benches and measuring devices.
  • Large work tables, shelves, cabinets, tool boxes, tables, etc.
