IBM Quantum Hub at IQ
Preparing for quantum
Recent technical and scientific advances have brought about the advent of quantum computing and with it, the potential to solve complex problems in optimization, modelling and data analysis.
The three most frequently cited reasons by companies for being interested in quantum computing are:
- the computational limitations of classical supercomputers
- the risk of being disrupted by quantum applications in the near future
- the first-mover leadership position in the market
Several major companies in aeronautics, finances and IT among others are already investing in quantum research.
Quantum advantage will belong to those who position themselves today.
The Université de Sherbrooke has partnered with IBM to open an IBM Quantum Hub at Institut quantique (IQ), the first of its kind in Canada.
A WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH TOOL
Our IBM Quantum Hub members have exclusive cloud-based access to IBM’s most advanced quantum computer systems and software. Using IBM’s Qiskit software, users can run their programs intuitively to explore the possibilities of quantum computing. Depending on the agreement, our Hub members can have a dedicated research chair and benefit from a full team of researchers as well as a longer-term commitment.
A COMMUNITY OF EXPERTS
Beyond technology, there is talent. The IBM Quantum Hub at IQ is an opportunity to take part in a community of experts and to have access to the quantum expertise of our IQ members. It is also an opportunity to expand your network through events organized by IQ and the IBM Quantum Network.
Our IBM Quantum Hub members can collaborate in working groups within the IBM Quantum Network and exchange best practices. They also have access to a range of IQ workshops including on quantum programming.
WHAT IS AN IBM Q Hub?
IBM Quantum Hubs are regional centers of quantum computing education, research, development, and implementation that provide collaborators cloud access to IBM quantum technology.
WHAT IS THE IBM Q NETWORK?
The IBM Quantum Network is a global network of companies, academic institutions, start-ups and research labs that work with IBM to advance quantum computing. Learn more about IBM Quantum Network
WHAT IS QISKIT SOFTWARE?
Qiskit is an open source quantum computing software development framework that serves as an interface for programming quantum experiments and applications on IBM Quantum systems. Learn more about Qiskit
WHAT SYSTEMS DOES OUR IBM QUANTUM HUB GIVE YOU ACCESS TO?
As a member of the IBM Quantum Hub at IQ, your research team is entitled to its own exclusive programming slot, which provides access to IBM’s most advanced quantum computing systems including to 127-qubit one, currently the largest universal system available.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF ACCESS WITHIN OUR IBM QUANTUM HUB?
We offer different types of access depending on the needs of your research team. Our approach is based on scientific collaboration with the technical support of programmers and can range from a post doctorate to a research chair depending on your commitment.
