This training is designed especially for physicians, nurses, archivists, technicians, administrators, computer analysts, research staff and other healthcare specialists.

Our clientele works in the health care system, that is why we encourage: collaboration so that the curriculum be enriched by information sharing between students and teachers; experience by using real life cases to explain the material; and listening to truly answer the needs of our part-time students who must manage work, studies and family.

What is the teaching method used within the microprogrammes?

This program is offered through online courses, available on the Internet. They are not correspondence courses.  Virtual meetings (i.e. : videoconferences) are scheduled periodically to encourage exchanges between students and teachers. Even though the course is given almost entirely online, a few face-to-face meetings are scheduled. More precisely, the courses ISA306 and ISA307 (microprogramme in health informatics) and the course ISA205 (microprogramme standards in health informatics) all include a one-day intensive workshop. These meetings will be held at the Longueuil  Université de Sherbrooke campus (videoconferences available).

What kind of computer equipment is required?

  • The minimum computer equipment required by the Moodle system is a computer with Internet access and a browser such as Internet Explorer (version 6 or 7) or Firefox. To find out if your browser is compatible with Moodle (in French only).
  • Some plug-ins might be required for a course. These are usually already installed on computers using the recommended Browsers. Otherwise, they are easily downloadable, free of charge, on the official websites of their respective developers.
  • Videoconferencing material such as a microphone and headphones. A Web cam is not necessary since its feed takes too much bandwidth. The videoconferencing application requires a very solid internet connection (at least high speed intermediate 250 kb/s but it is recomended to have a greater speed); Wi-Fi, USB mobiles and satellite connection are not recommended to ensure a good connection.

How does an online training course usually take place?

Each course progresses according to its syllabus. Courses take place in a linear sequence, in other words, one after another. Usually, modules covered by one course are made available on the Internet at the beginning of the course to promote student autonomy. Following the instructions, students have to refer to different units and then complete the different compulsory exercises and assignments. Generally, exercises and evaluations take place at the end of a module. Exercises can be done individually or in groups with the help of the services at the student’s disposal.
