Andrew McGregor Grant received his MB ChB in Medicine in 1970 from Birmingham University, his Member of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in London in 1975, his D. Phil in biochemistry from Oxford University in 1983 and his Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in biochemistry in 1990. In 2004, he was elected a member of the American College of Medical Informatics.

He is now a full professor at Université de Sherbrooke and is the Director of Collaborative Research for Effective Diagnostics (CRED), in which many research projects involve intelligent systems and clinical data. From 2005 to 2009, Dr. Grant was director of the Interdisciplinary Research Axis in Health Evaluation (ARIES) at Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Sherbrooke (CHUS). From 2004 to 2006, he was president of the Standards Steering Commitee of Canada Health Infoway. He is a member of the Canadian ISO 215 delegation in health informatics. From 2002 to 2004, he was president of the Société Québécoise d'Informatique Biomédicale et de la Santé (SoQibs) and is currently vice-president. In 2006, he received the Canada Health Infoway Peer Award to underline his contribution in the advancement of Health Informatics Standards in Canada.

Dr. Grant is the director of the Health Informatics Microprogrammes at Université de Sherbrooke. He also teaches the ISA 300: Health Sciences course in the Health Informatics Microprogramme.
