Papers and Procedures

Once you have been admitted to the Université de Sherbrooke, you must obtain the following two documents before entering the country:

Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ)

The Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ) is issued by the Government of Quebec. You will need official admission confirmation from the Université de Sherbrooke in order to obtain a CAQ. Once you have been admitted to the Université de Sherbrooke, the university will send you the CAQ request form along with your Admission Offer. You will be required to pay CAD$100 in order to obtain the CAQ.

Student Permit

To obtain the student permit issued by the Government of Canada, you must first have the Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ). You will find the permit request form at all Canadian diplomatic offices (embassies, High Commissioner’s Offices or consulates) in your home country. A fee of CAD$125 is required for the permit. Delays could be long and may vary depending on your country of residence. It is therefore important to start the process as soon as you receive your Admission Offer from the Université de Sherbrooke. The CAQ and the student permit are not required for programs that are under six months in length.

Health Insurance

Group Insurance

Health insurance is mandatory in Quebec. Unless there is an agreement between your country and Quebec, you must pay CAD$720 for a group health insurance plan.

In 2008-2009, health insurance premiums cost $720. This amount could be adjusted upwards in 2009-20010.

France-Quebec Plan

An agreement between Quebec and France allows students who have a French passport and are eligible for social security in France to benefit from the Quebec Health Plan (RAMQ). If that is the case, you will receive, upon arrival in Quebec, a file with a request form and the applicable criteria.

You must have with you at that time the fully completed certificate confirming your eligibility to social security in France (the SE 401-Q 106 form for CREPUQ exchange students and the SE 401-Q 102 form for everyone else).
